Hotels of Alaska
It has always been a part of the nature of an American to seek the wilderness. In the early days of our country, the wilderness was usually just over the next hill. It was this drive toward the wilderness that moved our country ever westward. This drive is still alive in us today although the wilderness is not over the next hill anymore. It pulls us still though. If you want to experience it, there is still a place in the United States where it can be found.
The small town of Homer, Alaska sits on the tip of the Kanai Peninsula about 225 miles from the City of Anchorage. The Kanai Peninsula juts out into the cold waters of the North Pacific Ocean and represents one of the last true wilderness frontiers of America. It is also a really great place to fish. Fishing in Homer, Alaska encompasses the full spectrum of what makes fishing such a great sport. It is not just the variety of fishing available, but also the surroundings.
The fishing is good enough. If Homer were located in a parking lot somewhere, the fishing would still be great. Charter boats leave the harbor to pull huge halibut and salmon from the icy waters while inland the streams and lakes are so full of trout and other game fish that you will strain your back catching them. The fishing potential of Homer takes a second seat to nowhere in the world.
Still the fishing in Homer, Alaska is only half of the story. The other half is Alaska itself. The frontier spirit of the people and the mind boggling beauty of the scenery make the Alaskan fishing adventure unique. There is a downside. Alaska is not does not really have the year round potential of the warmer vacation spots and you have to plan your trip within a comparably small good weather window.
Petra is Like a dream
The Trail
The trail we're walking, newly stitched together from grazing tracks, Bedouin migration routes and this first-day canyon descent will bring us not only to Petra but, we hope, to a richer appreciation of the place and its surroundings.
By the time we reach the foot of the canyon, crag martins are surfing the gloaming, stuffing themselves with insects. The Wadi Araba, "Valley of the Arabs", stretches before us, a semi-desert that stalls the Ghuweir's gravel-lined stream, with its pink-flowering oleanders, in its tracks.
Next morning, the sun is still low as we stride out across the plain. Moses came this way, and many early Christians were martyred in the region's brutal copper mines. We descend past caper bushes and desert roses to a stream, where we cool our feet, leaving our footprints among the fresh hoof marks of the elusive ibex goats.
This is unrivalled walking, and not only for the dizzying views of the mountains and the Wadi Araba far below. Immersion in the local history, culture and geology is providing us with an illuminating context for the city we're approaching.
Things to see In The United Arab Emirates's Hotels
A federation of seven states including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al Qaiwain, the United Arab Emirates was established in the year 1971. Craggy mountains, sand dunes, sandy beaches, lush green parks, dusty villages, ancient houses, vibrant souks and modern shopping malls of the United Arab Emirates offers a kaleidoscope of varied offerings for a tourist. Dubai is a shopper's paradise and it is a great shopping destination with an array of products that are unrivalled.
Abu Dhabi is referred to as the Manhattan of the Middle East and is a modern city full of skyscrapers. It is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and connects the mainland with two bridges. It has many attractions like the Heritage Village, the beautiful Corniche or beach, the Al Hisn Fort, the Petroleum Exhibition, old souk or market, Breakwater Island, Sheik Zayed's palace and the oldest part of the town, the Batin. It is also home to the White Fort called the Diwan Amiri. Abu Dhabi preserves many things from its past despite its modernization.
Al Ain, which is located sixty miles away from Abu Dhabi is an oasis and a caravan stop. It is rich with a huge fertile plain and picturesque scenery. Here there is a camel market, zoo and a museum that contains artefacts both old and new and some good examples of Mesopotamian pottery. A few kilometres away from Al Ain is a water spring called Ain Faidha. Archaeological sites can also be found near the Al Ain area. To the south of Al Ain is Hafit Mountain which contains ancient pottery, swords and tombs.
Dubai, hailed as the Pearl of the Arabian Gulf, is another must see sight in the UAE. It was a seafaring settlement and a natural harbor for the fishermen and dhow traders. Bur Dubai houses the world renowned Gold Souk and spice Souk. The Al Fahidi Fort and Dubai museum offer a glimpse back into the rich ancient past of the country. Dubai hosts the Dubai World Cup, the PGA Desert Classic Golf tournament and the Dubai Shopping Festival. The camel riding, sand skiing, four wheel desert safaris, Bedouin barbeques and dhow cruises make it a great place for tourists to visit.
The desert is a spectacular destination for the tourists. Sand skis, camel rides, four wheel drives amidst the majestic red dunes and stark mountains offer the ultimate desert experience. The oasis in the desert is a great place to stay and the journey through the desert also offers an opportunity of meeting the Bedu folk or the nomadic tribes who are very hospitable. Watching the camel races at dawn is a great way to spend the day.
